The very cool folks at Electronic Arts sent us the latest version of their Wii karaoke game, Boogie SuperStar, and the Burbia family was pretty stoked to check it out.
To suggest that we are karaoke fans would be putting it mildly. While we don't get out to the bars all that often, Hubby and I have never been shy about embarrassing ourselves and our closest friends by putting our karaoke video games to good use at most of the parties we host.
After playing it, I have to say that of all the karaoke video games on the market right now, Boogie SuperStars is unquestionably one of the best. In this genre of games, it's pretty standard to pick your character and your song, and there are usually a few types of competitions from which to choose (head-to-head or multiple players). But Boogie SuperStars has definitely kicked it up a notch in every category:
- Customizing your SuperStar means head-to-toe customization, right on down to your shoes
- Making your sound your own means using some of the best and latest hits, including Natasha Bedingfield's Angel and Pocketful of Sunshine (one of Hubby's favorites)
- Then there's the element of the game that only a combination of EA and the Wii can provide. It's the kind of hip dance moves not seen since Kevin Federline performed with Britney Spears. Well, okay, maybe not that hip, especially since it was Hubby and I doing the dancing. But what makes Boogie SuperStar unique and particularly fun is that your score not only relies on your ability to sing, but you willingness to make a complete ass of yourself while attempting to simultaneously dance and sing. We had a blast trying to put it all together, and I can only imagine how much more fun this becomes when you've got four friends and a few glasses of wine added into the mix (we have a toddler and a regular babysitter, people. It's not like we're exposing adolescent children to booze-laden Boogie SuperStar parties)
The snarky judges make the entire experience very American-Idol-esque and totally worth the price of admission. This would be one of the hottest Christmas presents at your family party this year, so head to Amazon.com and pick up a copy.
Oh, and I can't convince you how much fun it is, maybe The Ambassador can:

OMG!!! Jackson has some Mick Jagger moves!! And as for Arun....hmmm...I'm speechless! LOL!
We need that. My kids would love that. Your little guy has some moves. And the "older" one too!
Love the review. Makes me want the game!
Okay...the best part is the dog looking at them both like WTH are they doing!!!
I have to say that I'm not into this sort of thing...and you actually sold me...how fun does this look!
That's hot!
This sounds like a lot of fun. We enjoy playing the American Idol Wii game (and have embarrassed a friend or two, making them sing for their supper). I will have to look into this.
I wanna play!!!
Oh my freakin' gosh he is awesome!!! I want to eat him up!
I am too lame to try to do what he did, but it was great to see him.
Yes, this is a popular game in our home too! I have to say, my dance moves didn't look nearly as ...um graceful as the your son's!
So we don't even have a wii yet but I might have to get one just for this game! How fun and I'm definitely buying it for my brother that does have a wii so we can play it over Christmas!
Video! That's what I need to do, I need to sneak in a video recording of my boys playing the game. They are too cute with their dance moves. Hopefully santa will bring me a Flip so I can record ;)
I'm writing this as you commented over on Xbox4NappyRashes site congratulating him on the birth of his daughter.
I am writing it here because this post is down the page a bit and i don't want him to see it :)
A while ago, before Martin's (xbox4nappyrash) wife got pregnant I promised I would post a youtube video of me singing "Yes" by Mcalomont & Butler whilst accompanying myself on the ukulele to celebrate the birth of their child.
This will not be a pretty sight as I can neither sing, nor really play the ukulele (this isn't false modesty - I really can't).
However what I thought might make it really cool would be instead of just a straight video I put together a montage of videos shot by readers of his blog all celebrating - i.e. dancing, sticking thumbs up, cheering, holding up signs, that sort of thing. It would have to be something that would work without sound as I would put my (awful) soundtrack over the top of it.
It would be great if you could participate. If you send me a short 5-15 second video clip (or at a push a photo, but a video would be much better) along with your name and blog then I'll put it together with other submissions and get something ready for the end of the week. I think it would be a really nice thing to do for martin to show him and E how pleased we are for him. and Martin has been incredibly supportive of me and my various projects in the past.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. My email address is dghughes28@yahoo.co.uk
Thanks again.
